Terra Alta, the visually breath-taking south-western province in Catalonia. Spain.
Picasso used to hang out here and this is where he developed cubism. The landscape is not only good looking but also ideal for growing grapes and recent evidence uncovered in Terra Alta suggests there was already wine production activity pre-dating the Romans arrival in 230BC.
It is understandable if you have never heard about wine from this little known “Denominación de Origen” Terra Alta DO.
Until a few years ago the small community of 12,000 produced wine for self-consumption only, but since then, due to hard work, enthusiasm and investment in modern technology this has changed and wine of the highest quality is now produced and exported.
Actually wine specialists in-the-know are forecasting Terra Alta DO to be the next up and coming top wine appellation in Spain and probably the world.
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to find a bottle of wine from this region unless you live in Terra Alta, USA, Japan or Switzerland.
Fortunately over the last year I’ve been busy filming a documentary about the passionate and talented wine makers of Terra Alta and I have been able to secure a good collection of the very best bottles from the producers.
I would like to share these with my friends, coworkers and every other winelovers.
Friday 5 April at 19:00 at Maui Coworking, Carrer del Perelló 78, Poblenou, 08005 Barcelona
I’ll show parts of the documentary alongside the tasting and will be including some insider tales from the wine makers themselves on the art of wine making.
Here is what one of the guests wrote about the London event:
"Thank you Lars for a great evening tasting wines from Terra Alta. I was quite fascinated with the unexpected wine types, i.e the natural and other categories that I have never had the opportunity of tasting before, so totally different from other classical wine tastings that I have been to. Your wines were a wild and wonderful selection of a different type from my ordered world of past tastings. There was a wizadry to Laureano and the way you described him and his wine making. I thoroughly enjoyed being "infected" by your enthusiasm.
It was fascinating to glimpse an insight of the human personality and history influencing the elaboration of the wines.
Thank you for your excellent organising of the "extra- ordinary" event and the follow-up pdf with all details beautifully laid out. Great stuff!
